AnimalKind was formed in 2003 to reduce pet overpopulation through targeted spay and neuter, with an emphasis on pets belonging to low-income families, large breed dogs and free-roaming cats. We screen applicants for financial need, and refer qualified applicants to close-by veterinarians who are under contract to provide sterilization surgery at reduced rates. Pet owners pay what they can, AnimalKind pays the rest. Subsided surgeries are provided based on financial need, to pet owners who otherwise could not afford to have their pet fixed.
St. Joseph Control and Rescue works with Animal Kind to provide these services. If interested, please fill out an online application (note there is a separate form for cats and dogs). Also note, on the portion titled “amount you are able to pay,” this amount does not have to be between the surgery cost amounts. It is an amount that you can pay that will not cause financial stress to your situation and expectation will vary based on income. The remainder of the cost will be covered by AnimalKind, which is a donation and grant based program. It is not government funded. Please allow one week for your application to be processed and approved. If approved, the program coordinator will contact you via phone to confirm appointment time and details. If you have further questions regarding the program, please call Jennifer Lockwood (Humane Educator at Animal shelter) at 816-271-5363.
