Health Department
The services offered at the City of St. Joseph Health Department are confidential and free of charge unless otherwise noted. At the health department, we believe that growing up is a life-long adventure. Our goal is to provide services and information to help our community stay healthy and grow up happy.

We aim to prevent illness, improve and protect the well being of our citizens, and encourage healthy behavior through proactive measures.

Health department services are available to everyone in our community.


The department also ensures public health preparedness and establishes the capacity to respond effectively to public health threats and other emergencies through its emergency planning and preparedness division. Their efforts focus on assessment and planning, surveillance and epidemiological capacity, laboratory capacity, communications, information technology, risk communication, and education and training.

Get fit for FREE in 2015! Join St. Joe FIT to keep active at classes and unleash your inner explorer as you trek or bike on St. Joseph’s fantastic urban trail system. St. Joe FIT will also offer “Eat Healthy, Be Active” classes every week at the REC Center, call 816-236-1491 for more information and to enroll. 

Collect prizes for participation by registering with the Governor’s 100 Missouri Miles website, and join the St. Joe FIT group to log your miles! Prize values increase with participation, so don’t forget to log all your activities.

St. Joe FIT is operated by the City of St. Joseph Parks, Recreation and Civic Facilities Department and the City of St. Joseph Health Department, and Trips for Kids operated by St. Joseph Youth Alliance. Sponsorship of the program also includes MOSAIC Life Care.   

Smoke-Free Ordinance
Voters passed the Smoke-Free Indoor Air Workplaces and Public Places Ordinance on April 8, 2014. The ordinance shall be in full force and effect on June 7, 2014. For more information on this ordinance, visit the Environmental & Food Safety division,
