Councilmember Mike Hirter was elected to an at-large position on the City Council on April 4, 2006. Receiving the highest number of votes in the election, Councilmember Hirter was voted as Deputy Mayor by the rest of the City Council.

Mr. Hirter retired from the St. Joseph Police Department in December 2006, after 30 years with the department, serving as police chief for nearly 6 years.

Mr. Hirter is the chairperson of the Council Finance / Audit committee and a member of the Landfill and Water Pollution Control committee, as well as the newly formed Communications committee.
