Fire Department
2011 Fall Open Burning Dates Announced
The
St. Joseph Fire Department proudly protects a population of
85,000 people living in the City of St. Joseph, MO and three surrounding
fire protection districts (by contract). We protect a total area of
nearly 70 square miles. The City staffs nine fire stations, two of
which house more than one Fire Company. We currently staff two ladder/tower
companies, five engine companies, two 75’ telesquirt/engine companies,
and two light rescue companies. Our department is an all paid department
with over 130 employees in five Divisions. The department provides
First Responder–Medical Services to the citizens of St. Joseph and
a large portion of Buchanan County.
Our
mission is to provide the highest level of protection of life, health,
and property to the public and the organization. We, the men and women
of the St. Joseph Fire Department, value teamwork, honesty, dependability,
persistence, and hard work. We respect and take pride in ourselves,
our department, and our City. We strive to be courteous and compassionate
to each other and the citizens whom we serve. We support our community
and continually seek ways to become involved in our community. The
membership of our Department is represented by IAFF Local 77, with
whom the Department partners to accomplish our mission and uphold
and preserve our values.
The St. Joseph Fire Department, formed in 1865, has a proud past and promising future. Four of the City’s fire stations were constructed at the turn of the 20th century and provide rich evidence of our Department's history.
