The St. Joseph Fire Department Training Division office is located at Fire Headquarters, 401 S. 7th. The Division is staffed by Steve Daniels, Chief Training Officer and Mike Neylon as Training Officer.
The Training Division provides training in all aspects of emergency services including fire suppression and tactics, hazard material operations, confined space rescue, water/ice rescue and Emergency Medical Services education and credentialing.
The Fire Department has been working to refresh all fire suppression personnel in various fireground tactics and skills, with the emphasis on house fires, automobile extrication, and confined space rescue.
The St. Joseph Fire Department and Hillyard Technical School work together on educating recruits for a career in fire fighting. For information on the Fire Academy, please contact Hillyards at 816-671-4170.
Members of the St. Joseph Fire Department Training Division are:
Steve Daniels- Chief Training Officer. Steve has been on the SJFD since June, 1983. He has been a Paramedic for nearly 20 years, and is a certified as an instructor for: Emergency Medical Technician(EMT), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Auto Extrication. Steve is the grant writer for the Fire Department. Steve is a recipient of the Fire Department medal of Valor.
D. Michael (Mike) Neylon- Training Officer. Mike has been on the SJFD since September 1980. He has been a Paramedic for over 20 years, and a certified EMT instructor. Mike was the founding editor of the Local 77 IAFF Newsletter, "Between Alarms" in 1983.
The Training Division of the St. Joseph Fire Department is a constantly evolving entity that is charged with educating the members of the fire department on the dynamic methodology of the fire service.
