Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities
About the Department
The Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities Department strives to provide a variety of experiences and an unmatched quality of life, while adding to the St. Joseph economic base via tournaments, festivals, attractions, and programs.

The St. Joseph park system, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is comprised of approximately 1,500 acres, 26 miles of parkways and boulevards, containing 48 parks and related facilities. The recreation division coordinates a wide range of programs, instructional, developmental and leisure opportunities for all ages, interests and abilities.

Department History
Earlier park planners not only left St. Joseph with our unique parkway system, but gave us the theme American naturalist. This unique theme, combining European renaissance architecture and American nature is an inspiration to all. This heritage, of which we are all proud was given to us by positive and progressive visionaries. We hope to maintain this attitude and add to the vision with everyone's help.

The department strives to provide the opportunity for each individual to have a healthy, active, safe, and enjoyable lifestyle.
