Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan
The St. Joseph MPO has been a staunch supporter of facility design that incorporates bicycle and pedestrian uses. A direct outgrowth of this notion has resulted in the development of an Urban Trail System by the City of St. Joseph, but of more importance (because of the relative size of the system) is the construction of new roadways that recognize that citizens travel by means other than automobile. There is no “one size fits all” approach to the issue, but the document attempts to provide guidance in the planning, design, and construction of such systems on the community.

If you are interested in the Urban Trail, a map is contained within this document that illustrates the location of the system over time.

Guide to Cycling Greater St. Joseph
Let’s face it, some roadways are better suited to cycling than others. At the same time, cyclists utilize different skill levels and are comfortable on different types of roadways. Still others want to bike “on-road” but aren’t sure of a route to choose.

In concert with the St. Joseph Bicycle Club, the St. Joseph MPO has developed a guide that provides some suggestions concerning routes to travel. It also provides information concerning the facility type (shoulders or not), traffic, speed limit, terrain and general information. A cyclist will need to determine for oneself what routes, if any, are best suited for personal cycling skills and travel accordingly. As always, safety is first so wear your helmet and happy roads!

Quad State Trail
The proposed Quad State Trail offers the perfect combination of countryside, cooperation and connection. It;s about bringing family and friends together and helping to improve their health and their lives as well as their environment. It's about cooperation and the potential for economic development. The Quad State Region includes the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
