The Ice Arena was opened in 1975 at a cost of one million dollars. This 30,000 square foot facility provides a number of amenities:

Usage
The usage of the facility is varied and everyone is encouraged to participate.
Public Sessions
Times for recreational ice-skating are scheduled on a monthly basis.
Private party times are available as well as for churches, school
groups, scout troops, birthday parties, and family gatherings or just
for fun. Broomball is available to be played on private ice sessions.

St. Joseph Youth Hockey Association
The association holds all practices at Bode Ice Arena and promotes
a number of teams, including Atoms, Mites, Squirts, PeeWee, junior
varsity and varsity. Practices are held Monday-Thursday evenings and
all games are played on weekends. The association is a member of USA
Hockey and the high school team is a member of the Kansas City Metro

Figure Skating Club
The club is a competitive skating club. The club freestyle times are
early evening Monday-Friday. Aside from being regional competitors,
the club hosts the Pony Express Figure Skating Championships held
at the ice arena in September. The club also puts on a spectacular
ice skating show each spring comprised of the areas top figure skaters.
