Recreational Opportunities

• Road Races
  Each year on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, the Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities Department sponsors the Parkway Run. This annual event attracts athletes of all ages, ability levels and from all over the country. The Parkway Run features 5K & 15K runs, as well as a 5K fun walk. • Trails
  Hike & Bike-construction phases continue with this program to provide a safe, alternative system for bicycle and pedestrian travel throughout the community, with the initial focus made on the north-south axis of the City. This system parallels the parkway system and gives the biker or pedestrian a constant beautiful scenic view as well as being free from vehicular traffic.

• Horseshoes
  Horseshoe courts are located at Noyes Athletic Complex (16), Hyde Park (4), John Lucas Center and Northside Complex. Approximately four tournaments a year are held at Noyes Athletic Complex. The Pony Express Horseshoe Club sponsors two and the others are fundraisers and memorial tournaments. • Nature Trail
  Located behind the four acre Corby Pond, this popular trail can be accessed from the northeast side of the pond off the parkway. Mammals, birds, trees and vegetation highlight this scenic trail utilized for educational trips and nature enthusiasts.

• City Recreation Track Meets
  Usually held in May, the City Recreation Girls and Boys School Track Meets attract a large number of elementary students competing for Citywide honors. Organized and run by the Parks & Recreation Department in conjunction with the St. Joseph School District, participants and teams are chosen by the elementary school coaches and represent their individual school.
