What are the age/grade guidelines for the Youth Basketball league?
Both boys and girls divisions in 4th-7th grade will be offered. Players which participate on a school sponsored team are not permitted to play in this program.
When can I register my son/daughter for the basketball program?
Registration for this program is taken by team, not individually. Team sign-up will take place from October 13-November 3, 2008. Registration can be made at the office of Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities at 1920 Grand Avenue
Home many games does each team play? Each team will play seven (7) games during the season, which will run from early December thru mid-February.
What is the cost associated with the Youth Basketball Program?
The entry fee for an "in-town" team is $155, while the fee for "out-of-town" teams will be $180. There are also minimal uniform requirements for play. Please review the uniform guidelines in the 2008-2009 Youth Basketball Handbook.
How are teams formed or picked?
Teams are inclusive of children from the same grade of a particular school. Many schools will have several teams within a particular grade; the method of dividing the children onto teams varies from school to school. All information regarding the "volunteer-coach" program is sent to the principal at each school.
How often and on what days will games be scheduled?
Most teams will play once per week, although there are times where a team could have bye during a week. The exact schedule for each day will not be complete until after the registration deadline. All 4th/5th grade play will take place on Saturdays, while the 6th grade division could play on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. All 7th grade play will be during a weeknight.
How do we get schedules following the registration process? Schedules should be picked up by the coach at the Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities office at 1920 Grand Avenue between November 17-21. Team schedules can also be viewed at www.stjoemo.info/parks/youthbbschedules.cfm.
