The Electronic Crimes Unit of the St.Joseph Police Department was formed in the spring of 2000. It was the first such unit in Northwest Missouri. The Electronic Crimes Unit (ECU) is responsible for the processing of electronic evidence with respect to computers, mobile phones, and video surveillance.

As the world revolves around new technology, so does the ECU. The ECU must remain technically sound with training as well as equipment. The ECU is yet another tool of the St. Joseph Police Department for which the citizens of this community can be proud.
