The Department of Technology Services was created in August, 2002 as part of an effort by City Manager Vince Capell to integrate the use of technology in day-to-day city operations.

The department's four employees support over 600 users in twenty-eight different locations. The department's responsibilities include network administration, maintenance and replacement of PCs, laptops and printers, coordination of computer training, assistance with common PC applications, assistance with more sophisticated applications, administration of Informix, Oracle and Access database applications, administration of 10+ Windows servers, website development, assistance with City's phone system and administration of a nine-site fiber network.
